Privacy Policy
Last updated 25 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Outscript Inc. (“Outscript”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, safeguards, and retains personal information in connection with the Outscript website, applications, and related services (the “Platform”). It applies to all Members and visitors.
We collect only what the Platform needs in order to work. We do not sell personal information, and we never have. We do not rent or trade it, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
This Policy forms part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service. Capitalised terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms.
1. Accountability
Outscript is responsible for personal information under its control. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. Enquiries may be directed to our Privacy Officer using the contact details in Section 13.
2. Personal information we collect
We collect the following categories of personal information:
- Account information. Your name, email address, and city, and any profile photograph you choose to upload.
- Scripter profile information. If you apply to offer help: a display name, photograph, biography, the service categories you work in, your availability, and any showcase images you upload.
- Marketplace activity. The Requests you post, the Offers you send or receive, the Jobs you enter into, the messages exchanged within those Jobs, and the ratings and reviews you give or receive.
- Reports and moderation records. If you submit a report, we retain the subject, the reason, any detail you provide, and your identity as the reporter. If moderation action is taken on an account, we retain a record of the action, its reason, and its timing.
- Technical information. An authentication cookie so you remain signed in, together with ordinary operational and security logs, which may include IP address, device and browser characteristics, timestamps, and pages or actions requested.
- Correspondence. Messages you send to our support address and any information you include in them.
We do not collect payment card details, banking information, government identification numbers, precise geolocation, or biometric information. We do not operate advertising trackers, and we do not run third-party analytics that follow you across other websites.
Please do not submit sensitive personal information — such as health information or government identifiers — through Requests, messages, or profile fields. If you do, you do so at your own discretion and risk.
3. Why we collect it
We use personal information only for the following purposes:
- to create, authenticate, and administer your account;
- to operate the marketplace, including showing Requests to the Scripters who match the relevant category and city, and delivering Offers to Requesters;
- to enable private messaging between the two Members on a Job;
- to build and display Scripter reputation from ratings and reviews attached to genuine completed Jobs;
- to review Scripter applications and to administer approvals and availability;
- to receive, investigate, and act on reports, to enforce our Terms, and to moderate accounts and content;
- to maintain the security, integrity, and availability of the Platform, to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access, and to diagnose faults;
- to respond to your enquiries and provide support; and
- to comply with legal obligations and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
We will not use personal information for a materially different purpose without first obtaining your consent or as otherwise permitted or required by law.
4. Consent
By creating an account and using the Platform, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Policy. Where required by law we will obtain express consent. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting us as set out in Section 13. Withdrawing consent will in most cases mean we can no longer provide the Platform to you, and we may close your account.
5. What other Members can see
Visibility is enforced by access controls at the data layer, not merely hidden in the interface:
- A Request is visible only to the Requester who posted it and to Scripters matching its category and city.
- Offers are sealed. A Scripter’s Offer is visible only to that Scripter and to the Requester who received it. No Scripter can see another Scripter’s Offer or pricing.
- Messages within a Job are visible only to the two Members on that Job.
- Your email address is never displayed to other Members.
- Approved Scripter profiles, including display name, photograph, biography, categories, city, showcase images, ratings, and reviews, are visible to signed-in Members. This is the purpose of a public reputation.
- Reports and moderation records are visible only to authorised personnel.
Authorised Outscript personnel may access Member content, including Job messages, where reasonably necessary to investigate a report, enforce the Terms, comply with law, protect the safety of Members, or maintain the Platform. Such access is limited to what is necessary and is recorded in an internal audit log.
6. Disclosure to others
We disclose personal information only in the following circumstances:
- To other Members, as described in Section 5, in order to operate the marketplace.
- To service providers that host and operate the Platform on our behalf, as described in Section 7.
- Where required or permitted by law, including in response to a valid subpoena, warrant, court order, or other lawful demand, or to a regulator or law enforcement authority.
- To protect rights and safety, where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to prevent or investigate fraud, abuse, or unlawful activity, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of any person.
- In a business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case personal information may be transferred subject to appropriate confidentiality protections and to the acquirer being bound by terms no less protective than this Policy.
- With your consent, for any other purpose you authorise.
We do not disclose personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
7. Service providers
We use a small number of carefully selected third-party service providers to host and operate the Platform’s infrastructure, including data storage, authentication, file storage, and email delivery. These providers process personal information solely on our instructions and on our behalf, under written agreements that require them to protect it with safeguards comparable to our own, to use it only for the purposes we specify, and not to use it for their own purposes. We do not identify individual providers in this Policy; a Member may request further information by contacting us.
8. Where your information is stored
Personal information collected through the Platform is stored on servers located in Canada. Our database, authentication records, and uploaded files are hosted in a Canadian region.
Certain limited operational functions, such as email delivery and content distribution, may involve processing or transit outside Canada. Where that occurs, the information remains subject to appropriate contractual safeguards. You should be aware that information located in, or in transit through, another jurisdiction may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement, and national security authorities of that jurisdiction under its laws.
9. Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy or as required by law.
- Account and profile information is retained while your account remains open.
- On deletion of your account, we remove your profile, Requests, Offers, messages, and uploads from the live Platform.
- De-identified records of completed Jobs may be retained so that other Members’ rating and review counts remain accurate. These records cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
- Moderation and audit records, and information reasonably required to prevent repeat abuse, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, or comply with legal obligations, may be retained for a longer period.
- Routine encrypted backups are cycled and expire within thirty (30) days.
10. Safeguards
We maintain physical, organisational, and technological safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. Traffic between your device and the Platform is encrypted in transit. Stored data is encrypted at rest. Access rules are applied at the data layer so that one Member cannot read another Member’s private information even if the interface were bypassed. Administrative access is limited to personnel who require it and privileged actions are recorded. Passwords are stored only in hashed form and are never visible to us.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a breach of security safeguards involving a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.
11. Your rights and choices
- Access and update. You may review and change your name, photograph, biography, city, categories, and availability at any time from your profile, and may delete showcase images individually.
- Availability. Scripters may switch availability off at any time to stop receiving matching Requests.
- Access request. You may request confirmation of whether we hold personal information about you, an account of how it has been used, and a copy of it in a portable format.
- Correction. You may request correction of information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Deletion. You may request deletion of your account and the personal information associated with it, subject to the retention exceptions in Section 9.
- Withdrawal of consent. You may withdraw consent as described in Section 4.
Requests may be sent to help@outscript.ca. We will respond within thirty (30) days, or notify you within that period if an extension permitted by law is required. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we may decline a request where an exception under applicable law applies, in which case we will explain why.
12. Cookies, children, and other matters
Cookies. We use a strictly necessary authentication cookie to keep you signed in and to protect your session. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Blocking essential cookies will prevent you from signing in.
Automated decisions. We do not use automated processing to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you. Moderation decisions are made by authorised personnel.
Children. The Platform is intended for post-secondary students aged eighteen (18) and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.
Third-party links. The Platform may link to sites we do not control. This Policy does not apply to them, and we are not responsible for their practices.
Changes. We may update this Policy from time to time. The date at the top reflects the current version, and we will take reasonable steps to notify Members of material changes. Continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
13. Contact
Privacy enquiries, access requests, and complaints may be directed to our Privacy Officer at the address below. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
